Exhibition about Vilnius Historic Center opened in Warsaw

On April 8, 2026, the Vilnius Old Town Renewal Agency’s exhibition “Vilnius Historic Center – World Heritage. 30 Years on the UNESCO World Heritage List.” was opened in Warsaw.  The exhibition marks the 30th anniversary of the inscription of the Historic Center of Vilnius (Old Town) on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994. At the exhibition opening, the Agency’s director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Juozapas Blažiūnas, said: “Is 30 years a long time or a short time? The outstanding universal value of Vilnius, which led to its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was determined based on the following criteria: the street network structure formed in the Middle Ages, the cityscape, the great diversity of valuable architectural monuments, and the influence on the development of architecture and culture across a large part of Eastern Europe that lasted for several centuries.”

Exhibition organizers: Vilnius Old Town Renewal Agency, Warsaw City Department of Cultural Heritage Protection, and the Regional Secretariat for Eastern and Central Europe of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC). The organizers would like to thank the National Museum “Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania” for transporting the exhibition.
