CO-OPERATION WITH THE ORGANISATION OF WORLD HERITAGE CITIES (OWHC)

Co-operation with OWHC continues since 2001. The regional conference of OWHC "The Continuation of Historic Urban Culture" was organised in Vilnius in 2003. There were 153 participants from Budapest, Kiev, Copenhagen, Krakow, Minsk, Rhodes, Riga, Tallinn, Torune, Warsaw, Vilnius and Zamosc.

Vilnius delegations participated in the international OWHC symposiums in Pueblo, Mexico (2001), Rhodes, Greece (2003) and Cusco, Peru (2005).

In 2002, Vilnius city was awarded the certificate of the Organisation of World Heritage Cities acknowledging that Vilnius has appropriately observed its international obligations and has been given recognition as a well managed member of the Organisation of World Heritage Cities.
